Guest blog from Jeremy:
Hello all. Sorry for the delay on these posts. The last 2 or 3 days (hard to tell time anymore) have been pretty wild. Last you heard from us, we had just eaten a ton of street food and were going to go out for a drink or two and take it easy so we could get up for our early flight to Phnom Penh.... HAH! As you may have expected, that wasn't how it played out in the least.
Pete made a new Danish friend at our hostel - Anders. Anders was a few years younger than us and had taken a year off between high school and college to travel. Obviously, Pete showed his lingustic genius and chatted it up with him. After sharing a beer in the hostel, the four of us decided to go to Boat Quay and Clarke Quay to check out Singapore's night life.

We headed out first to Boat Quay, where we quickly discovered there wasn't a great scene. We implemented the Hong Kong-esque ritual - CSB (Carlsberg Special Brew) outside of 7-Eleven - then headed to the bar. It was a pretty weird bar filled with ex-pats and waitresses outfitted in nurse's uniforms dancing on the bar. Anders was quick to point out that the main scantly-clad waitress had a tattoo, and "tattoos are naughty" (in his Austin Powers-like Danish accent). After enjoying a round of $10 beers and my version of the Georgetown classic 'sexy dance' (thanks to Ben and Jenny's inspiration), we decided to try out Clarke Quay.

Clarke Quay was apparently the happening spot, but we realized that we were very underdressed (all of us were in sandals, t-shirt and shorts). There was no stopping us though, so we walked up to the busiest and most crowded night club, appropriately named 'China', to try our luck. The bouncer told me that we didn't make the dress code and sandals were not allowed. I replied, "What? These are Reefs, they're brand new. These are hot, man." I guess it was good enough for him and he said we were allowed to go in, but just this one time. Big mistake. Within minutes of being there, the Big Three had taken over the main dance floor with our new sidekick Anders. We rocked out our usual repertoire of creepy/hysterical dance moves. Some people loved us, others weren't too fond, either way we enjoyed ourselves immensely.

At about 2:30 we decided to leave since we had to be "up" and out the door at 4:30. We made the call to just pull an all-nighter and sleep when we got on the plane. In hindsight, it may not have been the GREATEST idea, but we still feel it worked out well.
Jeremy,
ReplyDeleteI found your malaria medication today in our house. Do you want me to send the box overnight somewhere or have you arranged for new pills in Cambodia or Laos????? Let me know, I will be happy to ship them overnight if I have an address.
